Everything I Try to Lose Weight Doesn’t Work!

by Heather Hooker

As someone in the Health & Wellness space who has helped people lose weight for the past three years I hear this a lot! And I know what it feels like to be STUCK, which is why I do what I do but I also know that a lot of the reason why I used to be STUCK had more to do with ME than with anything that I was spending money on.

If you have ever said this – its time for a GUT CHECK

  • Do you have unrealistic expectations? Do you believe that there is a magic pill, wrap, cream, drink, or workout that will allow you to eat whatever, whenever and drop 5 pounds a day? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that doesn’t exist, never has, and probably never will.

MINDSET SHIFT

>>>>>>> I have to be diligent in what I eat every day in order to reach my goals. Weight Loss is 80% nutrition and every time I open my mouth I am either making a good choice or a bad choice.

GUT CHECK

  • If I can just do this for X number of days then I will be able to be skinny forever!!

MINDSET SHIFT

>>>>>> I realize that my health, wellness, and weight is never owned, but rented and rent is due daily.

GUT CHECK

  • I don’t need to track my calories! I will lose weight just by making good choices!

MINDSET SHIFT

>>>>> Tracking my calories/macros not only helps me ensure that I am staying on goal but also gives me something to adjust when I am not seeing the results I want. Tracking isn’t a chore, but a tool to help me reach my goal weight.

GUT CHECK

  • If I don’t lose ten pounds by the end of the week then I QUIT! This doesn’t work!

MINDSET SHIFT

>>>>> I know that 2-3 lbs of fat loss per week is success!! I know that the scale doesn’t always show the full picture, so I take pictures, I rate how I feel, my energy level, and how my clothes are fitting. I take measurements because I know that fat loss is not the same as weight loss.

GUT CHECK

  • I am obsessed with my scale. I weigh myself everyday, sometimes multiple times per day to see if anything has changed.

MINDSET SHIFT

>>>>>>> Instead of obsessing over the piece of equipment that tells my body’s mass in relation to earth’s center of gravity, I am going to instead focus my energy of making better choices. I will weigh myself no more than once per week and even then I know that the scale is not the most accurate measure. Especially with KETO – I will instead use a favorite pair of jeans.

GUT CHECK

  • I don’t have enough money to lose weight! I can’t afford a gym membership, supplements, workout equipment, etc

MINDSET SHIFT

>>>> You don’t need anything to start losing weight today! There are a TON of free apps that you can use to track your calories/macros or find workouts. There are free workouts on youtube. Where there is a will there is a way.

GUT CHECK

I can lose weight without changing what I eat. I don’t have to give up anything to fit into my skinny jeans.

MINDSET SHIFT

>>>>> Uhhh WUT. haha. Yeah girl – you def gonna have to change a few things if you want a different result. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. You absolutely have to change your eating habits. Period.
