The Best Low Carb Beer // That Low Carb Life

by Heather Hooker

I have a confession to make. I have been drinking a lot more alcohol than normal. Between the coronavirus quarantine, running my Pruvit business, and homeschooling two kids I need to decompress at night. Some days I feel like a few drinks is the only thing that is keeping me from completely losing my mind!

Does it help my waistline? Not at all. I know that for me – two drinks max per week is the ideal amount to help me with weight loss. Your max will be different but you should know that if your body is burning fat and you start drinking alcohol it will STOP burning the fat on your body in order to burn the alcohol and get rid of it. So basically every time you choose to pick up an alcoholic beverage you are in effect stopping your weight loss in its tracks. Choose wisely!

With all of that being said I have to share my personal favorite low carb beer because in my experience the lowest carb options aren’t the best tasting. That goes for most things in the low carb life, in my opinion! I feel better when I’m following a low carb lifestyle but I love food and drinks and I have to be able to enjoy those for this to be sustainable for me.

To be fair – there are several other low carb alcoholic drinks that I prefer but there’s just something about an ice cold beer on the beach or at a bbq. Our favorite hands down is Michelob Ultra Infusions Lime + Prickly Pear Cactus. It has 4% alcohol by volume, less than 100 calories per bottle and only 5 g of carbohydrates. It’s a light lager beer with real fruit flavor – it actually tastes like someone just squeezed a fresh lime in it! This beer can fit easily into a low carb lifestyle and even occasionally into a ketogenic (keto) diet.

A Healthy Lifestyle beats a Short Term Crash Diet every.single.time.

Also – a good rule of thumb in a pinch is that the darker the beer is the higher the carb count will be. You can use that if you find yourself in a situation that is less than ideal – make the best choice available to you and then move on.
